How to fix your embellishments

Roseshape
Upcycle frames
Decorated furniture

All our embellishments/appliqués/on lays are made of resin and are very easy to use.  It will enhance just about anything from furniture, frames, doors, mirrors, walls or any other object.  These lovely appliqués are very easy to apply to any surface.  You can use no more nails or any strong glue to fix them.

Please note:  due to the nature of these items, appliqués may contain small air bubbles, which can be filled with wood putty, silicone or all-purpose filler.  You will find however, after a coat of paint or two, the air bubbles are not visible.

You can apply any type of paint to these embellishments; pva, enamel, spray and chalk paint

Bending the embellishments is possible.

Did you know our embellishments can be bent?

Do you want to bend it to fit in a corner of a frame or a door?

The embellishments doesn’t have to fit your application exactly, small home alternations are possible.

How to bend your embellishments:

DO NOT try to bend your embellishments straight out of the packet.

It needs to be warmed up to allow it to become flexible.  Here are the different methods to use:

  1. The hair dryer method:

This is probably the easiest way if you are working with a thin to medium thickness embellishment.  Simply grab a hair dryer and select a moderate to high heat setting.  Then you want to start heating the embellishment with the hairdryer in gentle passes along the length of the embellishment.  Depending on the shape you are trying to adjust to, we would recommend starting from the centre of the embellishment/appliqué/on lay and work outwards towards the edges.

2.         The microwave method:

The principal here is much the same as the hair dryer method, only instead of applying heat that way we are going to use a microwave oven. (That is, if your embellishments will fit inside your microwave.)

You need to be careful not to apply too much heat all at once here so as to make the embellishment too flexible too quickly.  Depending on the strength of your microwave we would say work in increments of 10-15 seconds and then see how warm and flexible the embellishments feels before putting it on for anther few seconds.

You’ll know when the embellishment is ready as it will be easily pliable and you should be able to press it into the shape you need without forcing it.  As before just hold it in place and shape with some adhesive tape until it has cooled and it will retain its shape ready to be permanently affixed.

As we mentioned, the best embellishment to try this method on, are ones that don’t have too much volume to them as  anything too thick will take a lot of heat and may not bend well.  Most of the more delicate embellishments that we have for sale will bend easily into shape though and look like they were made along with the piece of furniture they are being fixed to.

Once the embellishments have set they will be as tough as when they were made.  If you want to set them again, you only repeat the heating process as outlined above.

Needless to say these methods will not work with other embellishments made of other material.
